Garden State Sharpshooters Champs... Sports University won the Championship of the Garden State
Sharpshooters Spring Slamfest AAU 15U tournament. Sports U won all 3 of
the games in their bracket. Defeating the Yonkers Knights 65-23, and the
Gym Rats 49-40 of Bergen County on Saturday and the Monmouth Power on
Sunday 63-41. The Championship game was against the Mount Vernon Boys and
Girls Club 15U AAU Club which is financed by Denzel Washington the actor
and has produced players such as Ben Gordon of the Chicago Bulls. |

Angelo Mangiro, Sports U 6"4 280 lb center from Roxbury lead the way
on the interior scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Jordan Quick
of St Anthony’s HS chipped in with 15 points. MVBGC did get to within 2
points at 38-36 before Sports U pulled away for the win 56-47. Coach
Darryl Dawkins noted how the team is beginning to come together. He stated
he is most impressed by how our players are learning to handle adversity.
He notes we are still very much in the process of building our foundation
but our players are clearly buying into our philosophy of hard work on the defensive side of the ball. Sports University continues to prepare for their departure for Iceland on April 17th. GM/Pres. Ed Brights states. We have been informed by the Skallgimur Professional Club in Iceland that every arena we will be playing in has already been sold out. Basketball is huge in Iceland. They are excited to see us play, fascinated with Darryl Dawkins coaching us and the National Youth Teams of Denmark and Norway coming in. |
