Sports University AAU All Stars
Mission Statement
Many people believe that sports, public education and
politics are the three most dominant and pervasive social forces that
shape our society and influence the quality and character of American
culture. We the executive and coaching staff of Sports U realize that the
love of sports is so deeply embedded in our national consciousness that
the values of millions of people — participants and spectators — are
directly and dramatically affected by the values conveyed by organized
sports. This places a significant social responsibility on our coaches who
influence our basketball players to assure that athletic competition helps
build the character and ethics and gives each of our players a clear
understanding of what their social contract is to their communities at
large.
Many aspects of American society are competitive, including our free
enterprise system, and our views as to what is permissible and proper in
the competitive pursuit of personal goals are influenced strongly by the
dominant values of high-profile athletic competition. We commit that our
program will be more than basketball and build character by living these
principles. Never minimizing that we have been entrusted with exceptional
future basketball stars and our goal is to see them all awarded NCAA
basketball scholarships. Five principles of our program are.
Striving to Win. Though the program will stress how
win-at-any-cost strategies inevitably degrade sports, it will not
trivialize or devalue either the desire to win or the importance of
winning.
Winning Is Important. For athletes and coaches who devote
huge portions of their lives to being the best they can be in the pursuit
of individual victories, records, championships and medals, it is
demeaning to dismiss the importance of victory by saying "it’s only a
game." Winning is important. Trying to win is essential. Without the
passionate pursuit of victory, much of the enjoyment as well as the
educational and spiritual value of sports would be lost.
Ethics Is Essential to True Winning. We believe the best
strategy is not to de-emphasize winning but to more vigorously emphasize
that adherence to ethical standards and sportsmanship in the honorable
pursuit of victory is essential to winning in its true sense. It is one
thing to be declared the winner; it is quite another to really win.
Victories attained in dishonorable ways are hollow and degrade the concept
of sport.
Cheating and Bad Sportsmanship Are Not Options. We believe
that cheating and bad sportsmanship are simply not options because they
rob victories of meaning and value and replace the high ideals of true
sport with the degrading and petty values of a dog-eat-dog marketplace.
Principles of Ethics and Sportsmanship Are Ground Rules. The
responsibility to demonstrate and develop good character should never be
subordinated to the desire to win. Principles of ethics and sportsmanship
are ground rules governing the pursuit of victory. The vital lessons and
great value of sports are learned from the honorable pursuit of victory,
from the competition itself rather than the outcome.

Brian
Coleman is clearly destined for greatness in the coaching
profession. He is currently Head JV Basketball Coach-Varsity Asst. at
St. Anthony high school in JC arguably the #1 HS basketball program in
the world today. Brian has coached such current D 1 notables as
Dominic Cheek (Villanova), Mike Rosario (Rutgers) and Tyshawn Taylor (
Kansas ). Coach Coleman has built a tradition of winning in both the
grammar school and high school ranks. Won numerous championships at
both levels…most prestigious championships Young World Christmas
Classic Bronx NY 2007, Hoop Group Metro HBC Basketball Championships
at Seton Hall 2007, and the NJ AAU State Championship 2008. I always
had a love for basketball but that wasn’t the reason I got into
coaching. My motivation to start coaching basketball was to help kids
from my hometown realize that there was another alternative to street
life. Sports have been so beneficial in my life, and I figured I could
show kids that they could use their love for basketball to help them
get to college and succeed at whatever their hearts desired. Learning
under one of the best high school coaches in the country Coach Bob
Hurley has helped me to grow tremendously as a teacher of basketball.
Coach Hurley has taught me so much about Integrity, respect and
dedication and I try to instill those same principles in players |

Daryl
Dawkins serves as our Head Coach as well. What is there to say
about Daryl (Chocolate Thunder) Dawkins? Having an NBA legend totally
committed and focused on our program. His leadership at each one of
our practices and games brings another level of credibility and
excitement that really cannot be out into words. His resume speaks for
itself, but his ability to get the kids’ attention and work hard is
also unbelievable. However, we are most impressed by Daryl’s
benevolent personality: smart, friendly, and warm. He loves the kids
and understands all the dynamics that go into building a strong
program. |

local current and hopeful NBA players, NCAA stars and Division 1
upstarts coming out of the top programs in America. |

We have based all of our
basketball operations out Sports University in Fairfield NJ. The gymnasium
we use is within the Sports University complex. Sports University is an
athletic performance facility. They work with adults and youth who are
looking to not only improve their performance in their preferred sport of
choice but also focus on the total athlete and the improvement in speed
agility and power. It is often to be on the basketball floor and see a
local pro athlete from any one of a number of pro teams.
We invite you to stay abreast with us as our program grows.
